Purpose of

Lions Clubs International

&

Liberty Lions Club

Each local Lions Club, in the International Association of Lions Clubs, exists primarily to meet the needs of our own communities, as well as those around the world. We do this without any form of personal financial gain as members.

Our Association’s motto is, “We Serve.”  This simple, and frank, statement says much about why we exist as an organization, and why each of us is willing to spend our own money for dues, and to contribute our time and labor as members.  Each local Lions Club exists to serve the needs of its own community, and to assist other clubs around the globe in meeting needs that exist elsewhere.

Just as we all live in a global world, so do needs tend to exist at a global level, as well as locally.  It is important that we each strive to meet the needs of our own neighbors; but, as a global organization, we can do much more than a merely local club could hope to achieve.

As the world’s largest service organization, we have often identified needs that go well beyond what a single local Lions Club might be able to solve; and, by working together as a single like-minded organization at a regional, or even at a global level, we have been able to achieve great things.  One prime example of this type of effort has been the SightFirst programs, in which Lions from around the world have pooled our resources, and talents, to greatly reduce preventable blindness.  For more information on this topic, please go to the Lions International website at:

As a local Lions Club, we have the opportunity to identify, and deal with, the needs of our own communities, at a local level; needs which might otherwise never receive appropriate attention from any other organization in our communities.  Each Lions Club operates as a semi-autonomous unit, in which we have the latitude to address any situation that we identify, as a need, at our local level.

When needs exceed what our local club can accomplish, we work together to achieve more, for we are not alone; but, part of an association of nearly 1.4 million members from around the globe, and from all walks of life.  As a global organization, we have nearly unlimited resources in the form of manpower and skills available to us.  However, it all begins at the local level by identifying and determining how to best address needs as they are identified by local Lions.

For more information on how the Liberty Lions Club has been identifying, and addressing the needs of Union County; and serving needs of communities beyond our own borders, at the regional, state, national, and global levels, please refer to the Community Service section of this website.
